FAQ Your helps center about ADAPTIL products
Mother dogs communicate with their puppies through natural messages released into the air: "comforting messages“ (Pheromones). These canine odorless messages are only perceived by dogs, neither by people nor by cats.
These “comforting messages” provide a strong signal of security and comfort to puppies. The “comforting messages” sent by ADAPTIL Junior helps puppies to feel as comforted and secure with their new family as they did with their mother.
Within the first week after adoption, puppies stop crying at night faster with ADAPTIL Junior.
Within the first month, puppies become more confident and self assured. They learn better and faster thanks to ADAPTIL Junior.
We recommend using ADAPTIL Junior until the end of socialisation period (6 months old)

Place the collar snugly on your puppy’s neck to ensure proper contact
Place a finger in the plastic loop situated on the inside of the collar close to the buckle
Using this loop pull the thin plastic to uncoil the collar
Fasten the collar
Place over our dogs head to tie loosely around the neck
Tighten the collar to fit snugly with your dog’s skin
You should be able to place no more than 2 fingers between collar and dog’s skin
Ensure the collar is fixed inside the buckle
Cut off the excess portion of the collar
When ADAPTIL Junior comes in contact with the skin, the puppy’s body temperature warms the collar and promotes the diffusion of “comforting messages” into the local environment
The collar should remain on the puppy at all times (except during shampoo)
Do not put another collar or a bandana between ADAPTIL Junior and your puppy’s skin, it would block the contact and therefore the release of “comforting messages”
Do not put the collar in contact with shampoo or chlorinated water (in swimming pool). If you puppy is swimming in the sea or lake just one time with the collar, it’s not a problem.
Do not fix a lead on the collar, it would not resist the tension and would fall off
ADAPTIL Junior is recommended for puppies up to 15 kg
1 Collar lasts 30 days
It is recommended to replace the collar every 4 weeks, to ensure continuous support to your puppy during socialisation period, until 6 months old
Immediately upon being fitted to your puppy
Be sure to adjust the collar properly
Check regularly to ensure a proper fit during your puppy’s growth (if the collar is too loose, it will not be warmed enough by the body heat)
Don't remove the collar, except for shampoo.
Leave the collar on 24 hours a day. That’s how efficacy is proven in clinical trials with continuous use of the collar (24 hours a day) allowing the puppy to constantly perceive the “comforting messages”.
The “comforting messages” diffusion has been tested on 70 dogs with various hair lengths: short, medium, long.
Hair length has no impact on diffusion.
The collar is not made of recyclable plastic material.

For situations that can be anticipated like fireworks, you should plug in the Diffuser 2-3 days in advance.

- ADAPTIL Diffusers should never be used with another refill.
- ADAPTIL Diffusers come with a plug that fits with the local electric systems of the country it has been bought from. They cannot be used in a country with another voltage. Please check before use that your Diffuser has the appropriate plug to be used in your country.

Trials have been conducted to ensure the ADAPTIL products are safe for dogs and puppies. Since it was developed, ADAPTIL has been used for millions of dogs worldwide. There is no minimum age for using ADAPTIL, puppies are able to perceive the pheromone released in the environment and will respond accordingly. If you experience any issues please contact your veterinarian.
When used as directed, the pheromones contained in ADAPTIL are safe for use around humans. The product may irritate eyes, nose, throat and skin. Avoid inhaling spray. If skin contact occurs wash your skin thoroughly with soap and water. If eye contact occurs wash immediately with water. If irritation persists consult your doctor.
The pheromone used in ADAPTIL is specific to dogs and cannot be detected by humans. The electric Diffuser plug complies with Australian and New Zealand electrical safety standards. The plastic materials used are self-extinguishing (V2 grade).
When the Diffuser is used continuously, we recommend changing it every 6 months for the best results.
The pheromone in ADAPTIL is specific to dogs and is not detectable by cats. If you experience any issues please contact your veterinarian.
Some caged birds are known to have sensitive respiratory systems (in particular Psittacines: parrots, budgerigar, etc). Therefore, if you are using ADAPTIL Diffuser, as a precaution, we recommend plugging in the Diffuser in a different room. For further recommendations or information, we recommend consulting your veterinarian.
The pheromone in ADAPTIL is specific to dogs and is not detectable by fish.
But as for any in-home Diffuser, if you are using the ADAPTIL Diffuser, as a precaution, we recommend plugging in the Diffuser in a different room.
If the dog spends most of their time in the room with the aquarium, we recommend using an outlet as far from the aquarium as possible. This is only a precaution to avoid oily, diffused active ingredients settling on the surface of the water. The components themselves are not classified as toxic for the environment. For further recommendations or information, we recommend consulting your veterinarian.
When plugged into an outlet, the diffuser will get slightly warm, indicating it is working properly.
The diffuser contains a heating element that diffuses the product, so is designed to be warm to the touch.
The diffusion of the liquid from the Diffuser is a very slow process. In normal conditions of use, it is difficult to see any change in the vial over the first week of use. Slight variations will occur depending on environmental conditions.
To make sure your Diffuser is working properly, check that:
- the wick is not broken
- the wall switch is switched on
- the device is turned on all the time (sometimes an electrical outlet is controlled by a wall switch)
- finally, try the device in a different electrical socket
The pheromone is contained in an oily carrier which rises in a column of warm air above the Diffuser. If this rising air is blocked (e.g. under a shelf, table, furniture) the oil may re-condense and leave a visible mark.
Do not plug the Diffuser under any furniture or object protruding from the wall as it needs a clear distance of 1.2 meters.
Be careful to plug the diffuser away from the air-conditioner, vents, cold air returns, or exhaust fan.
Usage with open windows and doors may result in diffusion at a faster rate. The product may not last the full expected 30 days. In such a case, a different diffuser location should be considered within the house, targeting the area where the dog spends most of its time.
